GRIMM TALES // A second year Visual Communication project, with a brief to create a title sequence for a fictional TV show.
I created a show called Grimm Tales – a series that would look at the origins of the stories collected by the Brothers Grimm, with different versions of the stories being examined and compared. As many of the stories are more sinister than their modern-day counterparts, my aim was to communicate that through my title sequence.
The title of the show – Grimm Tales – articulates the nature of the stories being dark and grim, as well as being a connection to Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.
The title sequence aimed to communicate the feel of the television show by combining the whimsical nature of fairy stories with the darkness of their origins. While the trees and characters contribute the fairytale setting, the dark vignette adds a sinister atmosphere. The type was created for a hand-written look and to give a storybook feel, which is emphasised by the way the text is written across the screen.
